In yoga philosophy it is said that our inherent state is filled with not only Sattva, purity and lightness, but also with Tamas, sloth like darkness, and Rajas, attachment and activity. As awake human beings it is our dharma (intention) to cultivate the balance between all three of these Gunas, or qualities.
Whether we like to admit it or not, we have all experienced the agitation of excessive energy, the anxieties of mental and energetic movement. Often times it is when we fall into the realm of Rajas that our shadows begin to creep out of hiding, presenting inertia or immobility. When a pendulum falls all the way to one side, it has no other choice than to swing to the furthest point on the opposite side: when we are driven by anxiety, depression will often follow. It is the stories of this pendulum and darkness that show us no light, presenting claustrophobic heaviness and deep fatigue. However, if we soften the voices of our stories and intently listen to the somatic experience of high and low, we may find another voice.
In this workshop we will use meditation, vinyasa, and yin sequencing inspired by the ancient healing practices of Ayurveda, to invite the truth of our Shadow's story. With this invitation we are able to compassionately explore our imbalances, opening space for liberation through harmony and joy. Open to all.
