A message from Emily Gallagher, instructor at Burlington Yoga
"After years of practicing yoga at BY, including 2012 teacher training, I moved to Belgium last fall. A huge piece of settling in here has come through practicing yoga. In addition to daily home routines, I now teach several classes a week.
Today I attended a workshop with a well-known Dutch teacher named Gosta. He has a large personality and a solid practice grounded in Mysore, Jivamukti and Hatha - but what he taught is not really any of those things. I appreciated his attention to alignment and physical safety, his cues and adjustments were clear and confident, and he introduced some challenging asanas which were fun.
I was less enamored with constant monologue and volume of words that peppered the class. By contrast, Piper's classes maintain an intensity, integrity and purity that I haven't found here. The asana practice permits the mind and body to be still; the intensity of BY's physical practice coupled with the quiet permission to integrate is something precious. I am looking forward to returning to the BY community for a visit very soon!"
Emily will be back in Burlington in June and will be subbing the Runners and Cyclists class Saturday June 13 & 20 at 8:30am for Karen.
