Melissa Platner (RYT-200) grew up in Central VT and has always been an active person; a lover of sports, exercise, and outdoor activities. As a young girl she received Light on Yoga the book by B.K.S. Iyengar as a gift from her Aunt. That book is where her yoga journey began. Melissa was soon teaching herself poses in her room doing her best to emulate the printed black and white images. While initially drawn to yoga by the intricate postures, yoga evolved into something much deeper than a physical practice for her.
As a 2 season athlete into her college years, Melissa found yoga a wonderful way to calm and balance her body and mind during and in-between seasons. She enjoys gardening, hiking, art, swimming, winter sports and swimming. Yoga has always been there as a way to stretch, reset and center after a long day outside.
Melissa holds a Masters Degree in Nursing Education and has found her genuine calling as a caregiver. This is true as much in her daily life as it is in a clinical setting. The ability and privilege of helping others is one of the greatest gifts she has ever known. Melissa decided to pursue Yoga Teacher Training to deepen her personal practice, yoga knowledge base, and a to find a way to share her love of yoga with others. Becoming a yoga teacher combines several things into one that she loves about life; yoga, educating, creativity, compassion, and caring for others.
