Restorative Yoga for Neck and Shoulders : December 2, 2018
Sunday, December 2 - 12:30 - 2:30 pm
Led by Piper / Candra Prabha
In today's society most people experience tightness, tension or even pain in their neck and shoulders at some point in their life. This could be caused by injury, repetitive movement at work or home, physical and emotional stress, traveling, mis-alignment of the spine with head-forward posture, or even sleeping in the wrong position. Strain and tension in the neck, shoulders and upper back can lead to chronic pain, headaches, TMJ, and even a compromised immune system.
In this two hour workshop we will develop an understanding of correct alignment for the head, neck, shoulders and spine. We will learn how to facilitate proper muscle balance through positional release techniques. Improving muscular engagement in weaker or inactive tissues with the technique of Contract-Relax (MET), and releasing muscles and tissues held in chronic tension with Strain and Counterstrain techniques.
Through gentle, slower movements, restorative postures and basic breathing techniques we will facilitate an unwinding of holding patterns, deep tissue release and cultivate a balance between areas of activity and inactivity. We will end the practice with a long relaxation to soothe the mind and calm the nervous system. Participants will leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, with a greater awareness of alignment and improved sense of posture.
All levels welcome. All props provided.
