Private Sessions and Therapeutic Yoga
- Yoga Therapy - Our emotional well-being affects how we think, feel, act, and relate to others. Our experience and sense of wellness is greatly improved through mindfulness practices such as yoga and meditation. The integrative approach of Yoga Therapy utilizes restorative postures, breathing techniques, meditation, yoga nidra, marma massage, relaxation and muscle balancing techniques to address your whole being. Therapeutic sessions are wonderful for recovering from injury/ illness as well as for stress reduction, managing chronic and terminal conditions, and shifting your relationship to anxiety and depression. The techniques that suit the individual in the moment are applied to help open and clear the subtle energy channels, release patterns of holding and tension, and to guide the client into a state of ease and comfort.
- Breathwork - Breathing is our most fundamental movement pattern, and is very commonly misunderstood and dysfunctional. It is the only controllable movement that we are doing thousands of times each day that has a direct effect on our sleep, resilience, and sense of well-being. (Nestor, 2020) In addition to the many physical and physiological benefits of proper breathing for stability, mobility, posture and overall health; it is the only aspect of our autonomic nervous system that we have conscious control over. Learning good breathing mechanics is key to accessing the other components of the ANS and eliciting the relaxation response to mediate the effects of stress, and maintain optimal health.
- Relax and restore - Restorative Yoga, also known as "active relaxation" is excellent for regenerating the body after injury, illness, travel, extreme exercise, or simply to slow down and undo the effects of stress and over-doing. This powerful practice of self-care helps to establish equilibrium of the physiological processes, and a sense of calm and ease. The body is completely supported by props such as bolsters, blankets, pillows, straps, blocks, and chairs so that postures are held with little or no muscular effort. All effort of the body, breath and mind is surrendered, and a natural state of relaxation is established. Gentle hands on adjustments and aromatherapy using 100 % pure essential oils are offered throughout the session. Students leave the session feeling deeply relaxed and refreshed.
- Understand the basics of Yoga - This type of session will equip you with the necessary tools to begin a consistent practice and inspire confidence in a larger group class. We focus on alignment from the ground up, proper diaphragmatic breathing, and the use of props to make postures more accessible. Most importantly you will discover how to move safely within your body, learning to use your breath, curiosity, and awareness to guide you through transitions; and to develop interoception- the moment-to-moment experience in each posture.
- Develop a home practice - It is important to supplement group classes with a home practice. Practicing even just a few minutes at home on a regular basis will reinforce what has been taught in class, continue to build strength and flexibility, and deepen your experience of Yoga. In these sessions you will be guided through postures and sequences including feedback on alignment, technique, length of holds, and modifications to effectively design your home practice. Photos and videos may be used to record positions and sequences.
- Celebrate a Special Occasion - Celebrate a Birthday, Anniversary, Bachelor or Bachelorette party, or any other occasion or special event for a one time group session or gather a small group of friends to meet regularly. These classes can be scheduled at your home, our downtown studio or Shelburne Yoga.
